Yes!!! I could argue this topic for ages, but for now I'll just say F*CKING CRTS!...We have them at school and since its mobo graphics, when I try and run them at 1024x768 or higher they only support 60Hz and it kills your eyes/brain.

I like my CRT - it's reliable and sturdy and doesn't hurt my eyes, because I found the refresh rate settings.

As a side note, I would rather not use an LCD because I have youngins in this house who would love nothing more than poking it to a point of damage.

I'm not sure if that means you're Pro CRT or LCD... but from what you're typing it looks like it's a video failing not a failure of the monitor itself.

Depends how cheap his monitor is, or moreover how small it is.

Im pro LCD. Yes, it's more the problem of the crap integrated graphics, however i've used LCDs at that refresh rate and they seem to be alot smoother on the eyes, albeit at the cost of performance etc. The CRTs at school are mostly 17", some 15" rofl. I currently own a 20" LCD.

    Re: LCD vs CRT

I'm a multimedia student, so I really do notice the difference, i wouldn't use a CRT for any sort of multimedia design, the image quality just can't compare in any way. I used to do graphics on a CRT, and it was so bad that i refused to work anymore till i went back to my pc. I guess some people prefer it for the price, but at least for my purposes, CRTs are useless.

i disagree, with a good screen colour config, you can get a desent CRT looking close to print colour quality (with pantone, not sure about ACS), its all about colour configuration with graphic design. as for anything else, your completely right, CRT is useless with video/animation/3d. i personally will never use CRT with my multimedia stuff just for the fact that it will effect the quality of my work.

its cheap and good enough for genral use.

I disagree with most things I've read here - my CRT is quite clear, esp. when compared to most LCDs I've seen. I can't vouch for the LCDs that cost an arm and a leg, but I have a dual CRT setup going and my vision is just fine :\
