  • ATTENTION: Important Information

Here's some important info that everyone who's coming to tomorrows SIEGE LAN should know...

REGOs: If you didn't rego, that's cool, we'll have a bunch of spare seats set up. So drag your friends along too.

ENTRY: Doors open at 10am (has been 8-9am in the past), this is because we didn't get to setup tonight but have to setup in the morning instead. If we finish sooner we'll open sooner, but please don't be banging on the doors at 8am. Just bring your PC & gear into the ballroom foyer and stack it neatly to the side and wait patiently.

PAYMENT: We don't have EFTPOS, we don't accept IOUs. Cash and cash will be accepted, no pay = no play.

CARS & PARKING: You CANNOT leave you car unattended in the driveway, so please unload and move your car to the underground parking. Parking is free, you just need to speak to conceierge on your way out and tell them you're with the GameServe event.

HOTEL TROLLEYS: Are there for the convenience of the Hotel guests (not event attendees), so if you use one return it promptly.

FOOD & DRINK: If you din't buy it at the Hotel you don't eat or drink it at the Hotel. Hotel rules. The canteen/kitchen will be open 11am-1pm & 5pm-7pm each day with food that's not totally overpriced.

FILE SHARING: We understand that some people are going to want to distribute legally owned and distributable software, that's inevitable, but we ask that said file sharing occurs outside competition times. If you need to, queue up your sharing to run overnight.

COMP TIMES: We don't wait for no-one, but sometimes you'll have to wait for us. That's just how it is.

CONSOLES: Respect them and we won't put a magnet to the side of your HDDs.

SECURITY: Keep and eye on your gear & sit with friends, if you're worried about it... don't leave it lying around (this goes double for wallets and mobiles). Overnight the venue will be locked and patrolled by Hotel security.

That about covers it, so we'll see everyone tomorrow.

  • SIEGE network hardware and bonus offer

It's official, thanks to the generosity of one of our attendees SIEGE will be ALL GIGA! And at the center of our gaming universe will be a kick-*** Cisco 48port giga switch that is sure to yawn at ANYTHING we try to throw at it.

We've also been told that the GCI will be giving away 1 free room-upgrade for every 25 rooms we book, so if you've booked a room be sure and let us know in THIS thread so that we can put you in the draw.

  • Rainbow 6 Tweaks and Patch

In case you don't read the forums, I've posted a tweak guide to help those with older video cards that are stuggling under the wieght of Vegas. Click HERE.

I've also posted info and links for the latest 1.05 patch that just came out.

  • WCG [World Cyber Games] '07

As you may have read or heard, the upcoming GameServe SIEGE LAN will feature the QLD finals of the WCG CS1.6 competition with winners being sent to Sydney to play off for a chance to travel to Singapore and play for world domination.

    Here's the official press-release...

CBN Media, Australia's consumer IT and interactive entertainment agency, has been signed as the Australian Strategic Partner of the World Cyber Games. Globally sponsored by Samsung Electronics and Microsoft, this rapidly growing tournament sees nearly one million players from around 70 countries worldwide compete for the title of world gaming champion.

A Team of Australian Finalists will take on gamers from all over the world, such as China, Germany, France, Mexico, Korea, Japan and Russia, in the PC games, Counter Strike 1.6 and WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne, and the console game, Dead or Alive:4.

National Finalists will be determined by the state based Qualifiers (NSW, VIC, SA, WA, and QLD), culminating in a National Final event in Sydney in late August. Winners of the National Final in Australia will be flown to the Grand Final in Seattle, USA to participate in the world's most prestigious e-Sports competition. The Grand Final will be held on October 3rd to 7th, 2007 at Qwest Field.

"Samsung is proud to be the Global sponsor of an event that continues to set the standard in global game competitions and we're looking forward to working with CBN Media on an Australian Final that is destined to be the best yet." – Kurt Jovais, General Manager Corporate Marketing, Samsung Electronics Australia.

Registration for the Australian World Cyber Games is now open. Information regarding the Australian qualifying tournament and to register is available at  http://au.worldcybergames.com/

  • SIEGE returns...

There has been a lot of talk about the (nearly) 2 year hiatus of the exclusive GameServe SIEGE LANs. Some suspected that leechers had brought it's downfall, others said that the GCI wasn't happy with it's Ballroom being used like a child’s plaything, and some few swore that Luggs had actually stabbed a lanner last time and buried him under the Hotels footings.

Which ever way you heard it is irrelevant now in light of the decision agreed upon by the GS Admin team just last night, so here's the skinny....

In association with the CyberShack, GameServe SIEGE will be going ahead on the weekend of August 4&5. The CyberShack part of the event will be the QLD qualifiers for the National WCG Final to be held in Sydney later in that month.

The other part of the event will be your typical SIEGE affair with uber comps & prizes, rego babes, and (sponsor pending) the famous PC raffle.

We’re just waiting on final pricing from the venue, but there’ll be a special accommodation rate available (for the unfamiliar SIEGE runs Sat 8am-midnight, then closes until Sun 9am-8pm, so you need a place to crash for the night) and we’re also in discussions to get some geek-cuisine (at LAN friendly prices as well).

It’s gonna be a HUGE weekend for everyone involved, so make sure you book the time off from family/work/partners well in advance.

    More info soon!

  • March Lan - Full House!

On behalf of the GS admin crew of the day, big thanks for all who came and produced a "full house sign" yesterday! It was a awesome day, with plenty of gaming, laughs, and good times.  Thanks to all who contributed with setup, packup, the console owners, the kitchen crew,  and the CS crew!

Without such a great turnout of support for GS and help by volunteers, GS would not exist!

Thanks again. Keep an eye on the GS forum/site for news on the next GS.

  • Upcoming 3rd of March LAN

It's time. The time that some of you have been waiting for and the time that some of you didn't even know existed.

Forget WoW for a day, cancel your grandmothers funeral, stop rallying against Global Warming and get yourself and your mates down to the next GameServe LAN held at the Helensvale Community Centre for the LANning of all LANs on the 3rd of March 2007.

There will be food & drinks served on the day from our kitchen with the addition of VoN's special sauce.

Plenty of comps and slaw servers on request.
Gigabit switches giving plenty of bandwidth gaming goodness.

So what's your excuse for coming?

  • GRAW Patch & Ded Server

Browsing to www.ghostrecon.com today and saw that they've just released the 3rd multiplayer map pack/patch. Here's some details...

Two of the most called for multiplayer game modes in the Ghost Recon franchise make their return in GRAW PC Multiplayer Pack3.
    • Siege Mode
      • In Siege you fight for control of a strategic zone, where one team defends (the Ghosts) while the other attacks (the Mexicans). If the attacking team manages to get inside the zone and survive for more than five seconds, they will win the game.
    • Original Ghost Recon Co-op Mode
      • In OGR Cooperative mode, you and your team-mates face off against hostile soldiers in enemy territory. Your mission is to reach the extraction point. The rebel troops have taken Camp Chapultepec and are using it as a staging area for their activities in the region. Their presence is increasingly affecting the operations of troops loyal to the Mexican President and the Ghosts are sent to deal with the situation before the rebels can fortify their position. This mode allows for up to 12 players to play together (3 teams of 4 players)!
Additionally you will find the dedicated servers pack, including:
    • Standalone dedicated server executable
    • Server administration console (complete list of commands to host and manage your matches - restart match, change mode/map, change server options, kick/ban players -)
THIS WILL BE PLAYED AT THE OCTOBER GS LAN

Grab it HERE (yay for AusGamers) and get some prac in for the next LAN.

Discuss is HERE (forum account required)
