  • GS bans leeching in favour of more gaming...

Well I think the heading says it all, but allow me to ellaborate some more.

GameServe has come to a point in it's history where a decision had to be made about the future and the direction of the LANs. And the decision is...

A complete and total ban on leeching in favour of a solid gaming timetable.

This means that we will actively be seeking out those using programs such as DC (or even good old fashioned Windows transfers) and asking offenders to leave the event without a refund. There will be no warnings, you'll just be asked to leave.

As the event is called GAMEserve, and not FILEserve, we will be releasing a Gaming TimeTable on the website prior to each LAN that will give you an idea of what is to be played throughout the day. This isn't to say that you MUST play that game during those times, we'll still have a wide selection of game servers up and available for clan battles or slaw, it just means that we'll be running organised rounds of that game during those times.

    And example of this might be;

9-11 :  Doors open, installation & patching of games for the day
    11-1 : CoD2
    1-3 : CS1.6
    3-4 : BF2 Left-side vs Right-side 64player slaw
    4-6 : FarCry
    6-7 : Q4 duels
7-9 : RTS (maybe some big 2v2v2v2 games or something)

And during those game times we'll take team names and match you up against teams of similar skill to provide a good challenge for you. We'll also set up servers if you want to war a particular team, on top of having some DM servers up for those without teams.

GS currently posseses 3 high-powered dedicated games servers that can host up to 4 different games on each at any given time and each is setup to run pretty much any game on request, so if we're not hosting something you want to play then just ask and we'll get something happening for you.

I'll be creating another thread where you can give advance requests for particular games to be hosted so that we have time to setup the dedicated server software.

Now I'm sure some of the more prolific leechers are going to have something to say about this, but let me first point out that you threatening not to attend the LANs anymore isn't going to change our minds, because for every one of you we lose we'll regain 2 more who actually want to get their game on.

  • GS venue change and dates

It's been a goodly amount of time since the joys of SIEGE, so we thought it'd be a good idea to let you know what's in store for GS over the next few months.

As the title suggests, we are moving the venue of the LAN to the Helensvale Community Center on Discovery Drive in Helensvale. The reason for this is simply that we could not get any solidly booked dates at the repeatedly inefficient Robina venue, and it was costing FAR to much for the regularly low numbers of attendees (by low we're talking 60-70 ppl).

But the great news is that I can say without any hesitation that GS will be on the first Saturday of the months of May, June, July & August. This is 100% locked in and unchanging.

For those that have never lanned at the venue before, it is fully air-con'd, has room for 80-100 gamers, has a kitchen PLUS CommsLogic will be providing wireless Internet for all to enjoy. It is very easy to get to from the Hwy and being a little further north than Robina it has potential to attract a few gamers from Brissy way to fill out the numbers.

The GS Admin team are also in the process of discussing a new ladder comp format

  • ESWC Q4 qualifiers announced

Strik3r brings word of the following...

I know that there are a few handy Q4 players that go to gameserve, so you might be interested in entering the ESWC 1v1 Q4 duels. Details are on the site below. The CS comp registration is also there in case there are any gold coast teams that want to give it a go against the best in brisi.

  • APRIL FOOLS - GS goes 18+ and Bans Leeching

After reviewing the SIEGE survey feedback we have decided that the best way to combat many of the issues we face at monthly GS LANs is to make the events 18+ and to completely ban leeching. This will also result in a lower yearly insurance premium which will allow us to put more $'s from door charges back into the prize pool.

Under 18 types will still be permitted to post in the forums until such a time as we can go through our database and remove their accounts.

The no leeching policy will be policed VERY strictly with no warnings given to offenders. If you are caught in the act your PC will simply have it's power yanked and you will be told to leave.

We hope that these new idea's will improve the calibur of attendee at our events and that future events will generally be a lot more fun and enjoyable.

    Update: APRIL FOOLS!
