  • A SIEGE in review...

Another SIEGE has passed and thanks to our great sponsors and to everyone attending it was a raging success. Massive thanks to CommsLogic of course for their Major Sponsorship of the event, I can't wait to see the pictures of the "Geek Stampede" in the paper this week!

A special thanks for a few people & sponsors (I hope I don't miss anyone). Firstly to AMD, Cybershack, THQ & Razer for providing us with some incredible lewt to give away. Secondly to Chloe, Dani and the MeterMaids for putting up with the "oogling" of so many geeks and guests. Thirdly to all the guys that gave us a hand with setup and packup and particularly to Retort for creating the SIEGE logo, flyer and player tags.

And finally to the Admin team for their outstanding work in producing an A+ event. As the "Voice of GameServe" I (MrWolf) tend to get a lot of the face to face thanks and praise for the LANs but there are SO many other guys that make it tick and without them none of these events would happen. So if you ever get the chance you should buy them a drink (coke if you're not 18) and shake their hand.

Congrat's to all the winners who combined took home over $6000 in cash and prizes, especially to the teams that travelled from as far as Sydney. It was great to have such a high level of competition and to see so many of the comps won in hard fought finals.

The final count was a little down on past events with only 247 monitors coming through the door, but the quality of the majority of the attendee's more than made up for the quantity. It's a shame a few saw fit to try and embarass those of us that put so much time into the event, hopefully next time they'll put a bit more thought into their actions

Unfortunately some additional prizes appeared to late to be given out at SIEGE so they will be up for grabs at the next monthly LAN instead (including 3 x Antec cases and 10 various performance mouse mats). You can look forward to hearing an announcement about the date of that next event soon.

Thanks again to all the participants, sponsors & admins for a great weekend.

Included in that record-high SIEGE prize-pool will be an Xbox 360 which will also be the featured machine in the 2v2 Console Comp. CommsLogic will be on-site to demonstrate their products and with special sign-up offers. • News team, Assemble!

Well, apparently we still have a news page... who would have thought that :P

Anyway, enough frivolity, lets actually put some news in.

First up, something that will interest Tapek - using your Nintendo DS as an RDP controller. This very (very, very) alpha program lets you remotley control your PC from your DS. Go here for more information/download

There has been a little bit of interest in some new Shure "gaming" in-ears on our forum.. but for absolute pomp and sass you need to check some $3,400 Audio Technica goodness

In the "something to make MrWolf cry" column the rest of U2's tour has been postponed  which includes Aus [and the tickets which MrWolf has]

For all of you ATi Peeps in the house, they have just release the new Catalyst 6.3 Drivers. Dial up need not apply [23meg for drivers? ouch]

Next on Arnie's purchase list is the brand spankin new 100" LCD from LG.Phillps, currently the largest in the world (taking the crown from Samsungs puny 82" model)

Finally... life's hard when you're an orange

  • SIEGE Rego's

Registrations for the March 25/26 GameServe SIEGE event will open this Friday (March 10th) at 8pm. Keep in mind that there are only 300 seats available for SIEGE so if you don't rego early you're going to have to hope that someone doesn't turn up!

Another FAQ is about the attendance of the MeterMaids, and I can confirm that they will be dropping by at some point during the event to greet their favourite bunch of geeks. As to whether Kurn lets any of you near them is a whole different matter.
  • AMD Raffle Prize

As is tradition at SIEGE we'll have another system up for grabs for 1 lucky gamer, and I have just received the CPU from AMD. This SIEGE we'll be offering up a schwanky new Athlon 64 4000+ (939) chip as the driving force of the new PC.

Details on the other components that will make up this system will be posted soon.
